The first thing you might ask when you read Between Places is "how does she find time to hand paint each page?!?". Tiana doesn't. This is all digital. The art's gorgeous and the story's compelling. Check it out.
On the other end of the spectrum, you'll find Crossing Death. BlkKnight's art may be simple but the story and character's have some amazing depth. You'll be surprised how much you can care about "stick figures".
Read DGN with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek and you'll laugh your head off even while you come to care for the characters. Just be warned: language, nudity, sexuality. They got that.

amazing webcomic creators in NC. If you live in the state, check it
out. Even if you don't, their resource list is an excellent.. er...
resource.
Hero in Training has been going for several years and, to my knowledge, has never missed an update. It is a great adventure story. Check it out.
Jesse Justice may be one of the best artists in webcomics today. Diablito del Ring may also be on of the only webcomics out there about small luchadores.
Adam Y. writes and draws a single panel comic that makes you think. Maybe that's why the Flowfield Unity is often used in scientific journals.
