What Do You Think? By J Gray

I would really like input from as many of 2nd Shift's readers as possible. As I said recently, I'm going to try to improve my art. That breaks down into better inking, better depth from shading, and better lines. As I was working on ways to practice this, I decided to try a style change for 2nd Shift. Above are character designs I did. The style is a lot more American comic strip and less of the manga-influence I was originally stuck on. The idea is that, eventually, the simpler lines will make the comic faster to draw. I think it will also allow me more depth of expression. I also think that there's been an immediate improvement in how fluid the character models appear. More than one person has commented on how rigid my drawing style seemed.

It isn't perfect. I think Eddie needs a bit more work and I suspect Zoe's head needs to change shape a little.

So, please, tell me what you think. Do you think 2nd Shift would be fun to read in this style? Are these models an improvement on the old ones? Please, let me know. You can comment directly on this blog or on the forums if you're a member of the 2nd Shift community or you can send me email via the contact button above or you can use the shout box. Heck, you can send comments via twitter or post them over on the 2nd Shift mini-board at frumph.net

Thank you! Hope you all had a good jholiday (or regular week for those outside the US).

Definitely, definitely better! I like this style over your previous one, this is more cartoony and relaxed. I really think your story will move more smoothly in this style. The hands are rough, but hands are hellish to draw anyway, it's said hands and feet are the toughest parts of people to draw and make look right, and it's true. Why do you think the old cartoons put characters hands in gloves?

Anyway, much better. I look forward to what you come up with next, I really do.
