Incentives, Galleries, and Questions By J Gray

If you look under the voting button on the upper right side of the page, you'll notice a little blurb of text talking about voting incentives. How it works is like so:

Once a day you can come to 2nd Shift and click on the vote button. It'll take you to another screen where you confirm your vote. Once the vote is confirmed, you'll see a picture. The picture is a little thank you from me to you. The thank you picture will change on the Monday of each week. So, this week's picture will be up until next Sunday. I still prefer that you only vote if you like the comic, though.

I've installed a gallery for 2nd Shift concept art. I'm working on improving my art (a constantly ongoing process) so as I do sketches, they'll likely end up there. Feel free to visit.

Finally, I have a question. What do you think of the site design? Is it too orange? Does the background detract from the comic? Is it too simple? Do you think the logo needs work? Would you prefer something a touch fancier? Or does it work for you? I'd love for you to give me feedback either publically via the comment feature of this journal, the 2nd Shift/Arcana forums, or via a private note using the contact button on the menu bar above.

Thanks! Hope you had a great weekend!

I think the look of the page is fine. It's obvious after reading the comic that the orange is the color of the company and the title is simple and functional...just like a copy store. Smile

... with Ebony Sun. I think the layout is quite good, honestly. The orange isn't so bright and glaring as to be intrusive, at least to me, and it makes a good mat/backdrop. That it also has a true connection to the story being told in the comic makes it deal. I think the layout is smooth and easy to understand, with clear and easy to read icons and lettering.

My only, very minor, personal suggestions would be:

  • (already taken care of) The 'vote' wording on the TWC button was very small and difficult to see. But I think your new arrow on the incentive box will help make that a clearer connection.

  • In your archive view, you have doubled arrows for forward and backward, rather than single-arrows. I usually see these as single arrows, to more clearly differentiate them from the double-arrow-bar of the 'go to first' and 'go to last'. I think it still works, but it might be helpful to put in 'titles' for these links/graphics so that when most browsers hover over them, the action of the button is made clear.

Beyond that, I think it's great. And I'm really enjoying the story and characters so far.
